Spark of Life IAHSA International Award Winner ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dementia Care Australia is very excited and proud to announce that IAHSA, a Global Ageing Network, has awarded the 2009 IAHSA Excellence in Ageing Services Award to the Spark of Life. The committee recognised Dementia Care Australia for 'developing a whole systems approach to dementia care that provides a sorely needed alternative to the medical model.' Community: My husbands dementia has become worse recently and now in hospital as we had problems I could not handle. He is happy now but very restless. When he knows I am visiting he packs his bags to go home with me. The Dr's are going to talk to me soon. Psychologist diagnosed with Alzheimer's-type dementia at the age of 58. Now 66,
he is a champion for individuals with early-stage and early-onset Alzheimer's
disease.As a person living with dementia, and now a member of the Spark of Life Community, we look forward to his unique insights and experiences. Richard recently commented, 'Believe we all have the same spark, the same "life", the same human needs; even though we live with a cognitive disorder. Show us your spark and believe in our spark.
