April 2008

'Each of us has a spark of life inside us, and our highest endeavour ought to be to set off that spark in one another'

- Kenny Ausubel

Welcome to the April Spark of Life online newsletter. One of the most commonly asked questions from carers is, 'How do I get my loved one to visit the doctor?' A refusal to see a GP is a common reaction of a person with dementia and our new article, The Best Approach to the Dreaded Doctors Visit is full of practical ideas and strategies to take the stress out of attending medical appointments.

Also this month we put the focus on Mother's Day; spend time together and make it a special day for both of you.

The Best Approach to the Doctor's visit

Medical check-ups are very important because symptoms of many conditions such as infection, dehydration, constipation, medication poisoning, or pain, can manifest in symptoms of dementia.

Read more about this fascinating subject in our new article, The Best Approach to the Dreaded Doctors Visit.

Mother's Day Cafe

Dolly Klaver, from Tabulam & Templer Homes for the Aged, shares with us a unique and lovely idea for making Mother's Day an enjoyable and special time for families and mum's to spend together.
