Christmas Message
This year we have focused on building the Spark of Life community to enable
like-minds and like-hearts to transform the world of dementia care. We are very
proud of the incredible team effort that has gone into creating a completely
comprehensive approach that encourages a culture of care where staff love
working, residents love living and families love visiting. It is our promise to
support you into the future in your amazing efforts to help people with
dementia and everyone around them to thrive.
2008 will be an exciting year where our 'flagship', the Spark of Life Club Program, a
comprehensive training tool that every facility and day centre can successfully
implement, will be released. Formally researched as part of a Masters Degree, this
program has shown outstanding results.
Our facility membership is poised to become truly
international and we look forward to welcoming enthusiastic people from around
the world to the Spark of Life Community.
We personally thank each of you for your incredible support
and heart-warming stories of success you have shared with us throughout the
year and we wish you all a Christmas and New Year where the Spark of Life is present for you, your
loved ones, and everyone you care for.

Dear DCA Team,
We have a particularly difficult high-care resident who we
are having trouble managing. She constantly calls out, screams, and cries.

Festive Food
The Significance of Food in Christmas Celebrations.
Food
provides far more than sustenance. Especially during the festive season,
careful selection of celebratory foods at mealtimes can bring comfort and
sociability, meeting two very important needs of people with dementia and all
those in aged care.
To
find out more, please read the article Food for Thought on our website.

How to Dissolve Difficult Behaviour Program
We
have had so many enquiries about our new resource, How to Dissolve
Difficult Behaviour that we have decided to make this dynamic program available to everyone, without the need to purchase a facility
membership.
Difficult
behaviour remains one of the biggest issues facing those working in aged care
today and this unique product introduces the Spark of Life Approach,
which dissolves challenging situations and creates a nurturing environment
where everyone can thrive. Discover how difficult behaviour is a result of
unmet needs and learn a set of skills you can immediately put into practise.
This
program has been specifically designed for Facilities to use as their
monthly training sessions. As part of your membership, you
will have access via your homepage to discussion topic handouts,
supporting
documentation and links to related articles based on each of the six
DVD
topics. These
resources can be used to create training packs or handouts for each
staff
member, creating a dynamic, focused and interactive training experience
for all
involved.
Visit
our website to read more and obtain your copy of the
How to Dissolve Difficult Behaviour program.
