Home Carers - 2007/05/12 17:13 Does anyone have any experiences of paid home carers? I am the only person available to care for my mum if she was to leave the care facility and would like to investigate the practicalites and costs involved in paying for someone to care for her at home on either a full time or part time basis.

Re:Home Carers - 2007/05/15 23:25 Hi Cezza. Can we suggest you read our article Choosing the Right Aged Care Home where we include contact details for the Australian Government Dept of Health and Ageing who run the Home and Community Care (HACC) scheme, which is a Government initiative and assists with support services that can enable elderly people to continue living independently in their own homes. Services include: nursing and personal care, home help and maintenance, meals on wheels, counselling, support, transport, ancillary services and assessment.

Flexible care is also available through Department of Health and Ageing or Aged Care Australia and includes various extended aged care packages available to help care for people with dementia in their own homes. Packages provide access to various services, including nursing and personal care assistance.

Your local council and Commonwealth Carelink Centres will also be able to assist with information on various local services available to you in caring for your mother at home. Commonwealth Carelink info line 1800 052 222 is a free call. This number will automatically connect you to the nearest office to the number you are calling from (within Australia).

If any of our members have any experience/s of paid home carers please share your stories with Cezza.
