On International Nurses Day, 12th May 2008, our 160 staff wore our newly purchased Spark of Life uniforms from Dementia Care Australia. Over 61 of our 125 high care beds at Sir Thomas Mitchell Aged Care Facility are dementia specific. We have joined forces with Dementia Care Australia to back the latest research, which states that bright, energetic colours provoke an initial positive response from dementia residents. This positive response can ease challenging behaviours and create a calming ambiance in a dementia setting. We had a great BBQ to thank all of our staff on Nurse's Day and an official photographer was present to capture the excitement of our residents and staff. Rachael Ellender, Director of Nursing, said,‘International Nurses Day is a fantastic opportunity to say thank you to the staff who make our resident's life comfortable and stimulating every day of the year. We are delighted that our initiative to purchase our new uniform will also help Dementia Care Australia, which supports some fantastic research.' ![]() Sir Thomas Mitchell Aged Care Facility
