When choosing a home, there are many aspects to consider beyond the outer appearance of a newly built, state-of-the-art aged care facility. The word “home” says it all. Is the facility you have in mind home-like?

Is the attitude about hugs not drugs?; choosing the right staff?; maintaining and encouraging the skills and abilities of people with dementia; and meeting their social and emotional needs, as well as their physical wellbeing?

It is our hope that we can become a community committed to a fundamental change of attitude where care of our social and emotional needs is considered as important as the care of one’s physical needs. And, just as importantly, where going into a nursing home is an event to look forward to with anticipation, and faith in the knowledge it can still be home-like.
